The Art Tour was performed at The Laurie Beechman Theatre in May 2022. Here are some reviews of the cabaret performance.

  • The Art Tour is a timely work that picks up on the national trend that’s got people quitting their jobs to follow their passions. The Great Resignation, as it’s been coined, is the catalyst for Kyle Fackrell’s delightful chamber musical that tells the story of two hungry souls in search of fulfillment after toiling in dead-end jobs. Deb, a struggling artist, teams up with her down and out former boyfriend Thomas in an ambitious plan to travel the country selling her work.

Fackrell, doing triple duty, as book writer, composer and lyricist, isn’t interested in a fairy tale. He does a terrific job painting, through word and song, the fears and foibles that turn Deb and Thomas into sweetly flawed characters. With tender strokes of pathos and humor, The Art Tour engagingly springs to life as a contemporary portrait of millennial angst in the 21st century. And as Fackrell so lovingly illustrates, success is measured not by a happy ending but by the journey that makes us grow.

  • On Saturday, I saw The Art Tour at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. It was a musical and emotional delight. Every song by Kyle Fackrell was crafted for pure audience enjoyment and the audience was very visibly engaged the entire show. Lindsey Hope Pearlman directed a fast paced and energetic production that gave a real sense of how well this material would work in a full production. The actors had magic chemistry that was hilarious and real and impossible to look away from. And the songs are still stuck in my head!
